Build Up!

What a day! The water was calm, the sun was bright and the views were inspiring. I got to Gloucester, MA about one and a half hours early, so I bought the obligatory location sweatshirt to wear during Colorado winters and then ate clam chowder on the wharf. Of course, dock settings don't necessarily offer the most moving scenery, but I was not disappointed. I watched two bus loads of retirees disembark and crowd into the restaurant for an authentic bowl of chowder and some sort of fish plate.I got to stare at a clipper that was very well maintained while seagulls the size of well-fed schnauzers perched on pylons and edges of boats. While waiting for my food, I played with my camera settings and created a few clipper shots I thought were interesting.

1:00 approached and the ramp to the Whale Watch boat became quite crowded. I began to imagine person upon person as we encountered the mammals of the sea. But, we all found a seat and took the 2 hour excursion to the feeding grounds of the Jonah gulper, Stellwagen Bank.

It was an educational trip as the guide shared information about the location, feeding habits and species. If only we could have such moving and living classrooms all the time. As we left Gloucester Harbor, the view was dream-like. It seemed I was in the middle of a movie set without all of the filming equipment.
